Iconic Stamsund

iconic06

An exhibition of paintings revealing past and present views of a fishing village that exists in a place of outstanding natural beauty.

The images focus on the industrial nature of Stamsund, showing structures and scenes that may often go unnoticed, or are seen from a negative viewpoint.

The compositions challenge the audience to observe the subjects as visually pleasing additions to the environment and to see them perhaps, in a different way.

Nestled in the natural surroundings, they are or have been an integral part of Stamsund’s identity and have their own iconic beauty to be admire and appreciate.

The exhibition takes place in a Rorbu, traditionally a seasonal fisherman’s hut, which has been saved and restored and is now a being used as a gallery, living and performance space. It is situated in Stamsund, a small village located above the arctic circle on Lofoten in Norway. Still a hub of fishing industry and with a port, Stamsund provides many industrial motifs for inspiration.
